Through Thick and Thin

If Liam learnt anything from his adoption experience, it’s that patience and perseverance can lead to the perfect furry family.
Back in 2023, Liam and his partner visited a PetStock adoption day with no intention of taking a cat home. They were interested in meeting rescue cats to get an understanding of whether adopting a cat would be an avenue they’d like to pursue. However, when they hadn’t met any rescues they connected with, a foster carer from Foster Kittens of Melbourne approached the pair and invited them to meet a litter she was taking care of.
The second they met the litter, Liam and his partner were in love. Two of the three kittens stood out to them in particular, Shuggie and Meadow, the inseparable sisters having quarantined together whilst recovering from Parvovirus. The staff at Petstock and the team at Foster Kittens of Melbourne advised Liam to adopt two cats, and he said that
“the idea of them always having one another to entertain and pester in the event that we’re both out of the house reinforced the decision to get the pair.”
Despite having officially adopted Shuggie and Meadow a month after meeting them, it wasn’t until 5 months later that Liam and his partner were able to bring them home. The sisters were struggling to gain weight which delayed their de-sexing operation and had Liam and his partner worried for the pair. “It was getting a bit dicey in the middle few months there” Liam reflects, “we weren’t 100% sure they were going to make it.”
Now a year later, the pair are healthy and happy, in a home where Liam has ensured they receive the love they need to thrive. Liam shares that “the empty house made it easy to get lonely while one of us was at work” but now with the cats, the work day is “a whole lot more pleasant”. Liam’s advice for anyone looking to adopt a cat is to “talk to your friends that have cats” and “attend an adoption day without the intention of buying a cat”, this will help you to understand whether it’s right for you and put you in touch with people who are happy to help out with any questions you may have.
