Our Initiatives

Petstock Uniform Recycling Program
We’re advancing our sustainability goals through a uniform recycling program in partnership with Australian clean technology company BlockTexx. Old Petstock uniforms are diverted from landfill and repurposed into new materials. To date, we’ve recycled 1.8 tonnes of tops, jackets and pants from our stores in Australia and New Zealand, with plans to include more teams and uniform styles. Our Grooming team will soon receive new uniforms, and their current ones will also be recycled through BlockTexx – continuing our move towards circular solutions.

Royal Canin Recycling Program
The Petstock Group are proud to partner with Royal Canin and TerraCycle allowing customers to recycle soft plastic pet food bags and pouches in-store. The program is now available across all Petstock stores in Australia and New Zealand, and participation continues to grow. Since the program launched in 2023, customers have recycled approximately 400,000 pet food packaging items, preventing thousands of soft plastics from ending up in landfill. For each kilo collected, Royal Canin donates $1 to the Petstock Foundation – totaling $13,924 this year to support pets and people in need.

Sustainable Own Brand Packaging
We’re improving the sustainability of our Petstock Own Brand packaging in line with Australia’s national packaging goals. As an Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation (APCO) signatory, we’re supporting the shift to a circular packaging economy and working toward the 2025 target of 100% of packaging being reusable, recyclable, or compostable. We’re applying APCO’s Sustainable Packaging Guidelines to inform design and procurement, and to date, we’ve achieved an overall Advanced performance rating against APCO’s Packaging Sustainability Framework.

APCO Performance Summary

Pet Fur Recovery Program
One of the creative ways we reduce waste is by collaborating with Sustainable Salons to collect pet fur from our grooming services, preventing it from going to the landfill and repurposing it into products like oil booms, hairy soil, and hairy bricks. This effort ensures that even small parts of pet care are reused in an environmentally friendly way. Sustainable Salons also donates $1 per kilo of pet fur to the Petstock Foundation, supporting projects that help pets and people in need.

Air and Climate
We’re reducing our carbon footprint by investing in energy efficiency and renewable energy. We’ve upgraded over 200 stores with LED lighting, installed rooftop solar panels at 40 locations, and reviewed our refrigerant emissions. We’re also developing systems to monitor energy use across our stores, National Distribution Centre, and Support Office to identify opportunities to reduce consumption and improve efficiency.

Water
Water is a valuable resource, and we’re committed to using it wisely – such as at our DIY Dog Wash stations. With 416 Dog Wash units in Australia and New Zealand, we’ve adopted sustainability measures to cut water use and prolong equipment life. Our wash guns have a low flow setting to help customers use less water. All Dog Wash units are locally made, serviced in Australia, and have refurbishment options to reduce waste. By managing water responsibly and designing for durability, we lessen our environmental impact.

B Corp is a global benchmark for transparency, accountability and performance. Although not certified yet, we’re aligning with the B Corp framework by focusing on responsible sourcing, waste reduction, and supporting communities and staff.
